Focus Raises $88,500 at “Golf For Kids” Charity Golf Classic

VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA—Focus and co-sponsor Terasen Waterworks recently raised $88,500 for the "Help Fill A Dream Foundation", an organization dedicated to helping children with life threatening illnesses fulfill their lifelong dreams.
The 2003 “Golf For Kids” Charity Golf Classic was held on September 13th at the pristine Olympic View Golf Club in Victoria. The $88,500 was raised through a combination of entry fees, mulligan and raffle draws, as well as through participants biding on items in an exciting silent and a fun-filled live auction. This year’s total surpassed the $68,500 which was raised at last year’s event.
Dale Douglas, Regional Vice-President for Focus and Murray Stewart, Regional Sales Manager for Terasen Waterworks, have successfully co-organized the “Golf for Kids” classic for the past 7 years. During this time, they have raised over $350,000, all of which has been used to help make dreams come true for more than one hundred Vancouver Island children.
Amory Hall, this year’s “Dream Child” is a 6 year old leukemia patient who is crazy about golf. Amory has his own clubs and kicked the tournament off with the ceremonial putt. A strong and enthusiastic effort from the volunteers and golfers added to Amory’s excitement as he almost made the putt from the long distance he insisted on using. He was very excited to open his tournament gift, which was the latest “GameBoy” and a couple of games for him to play. His mother tried to get Amory to say a few more words after that, but it was impossible once he was immersed in his game.
"The atmosphere and energy at the tournament was unbelievable", says Dale Douglas, tournament co-organizer “and the money raised really exceeded our expectations”. The comments from everyone: volunteers, sponsors and players alike, were all very positive – everyone had a wonderful day, the weather cooperated magnificently, and the Help Fill A Dream Foundation was delighted once again to accept a very generous cheque from this prestigious event.
