Focus and Terasen Waterworks Raise $120,000 at "Golf for Kids" Charity Golf Classic
September 15, 2004

VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA—Focus and Terasen Waterworks in partnership with the "Golf for Kids" team including 50 volunteers, 60 Hole Sponsors, 40 Major Sponsors and 175 players are proud to have raised $120,000 for the “The Help Fill A Dream Foundation,” an organization dedicated to helping children with life threatening illnesses fulfill their lifelong dreams.

The 2004 “Golf For Kids” Charity Golf Classic was held on September 11th at the pristine Olympic View Golf Club in Victoria. The $120,000 was raised through a combination of entry fees, mulligan and raffle draws, as well as through participants biding on items in an exciting silent and a fun-filled live auction.

The live auction culminated with $42,500 being raised on a single item - a golf trip for eight on a private jet to the Monterey Peninsula to play Pebble Beach.

Dale Douglas, Regional Vice-President for Focus and Murray Stewart, Regional Manager for Terasen Waterworks, have successfully co-organized the “Golf for Kids” classic for the past 8 years. During this time, the event has raised over $450,000, which has been used to help make dreams come true for more than one hundred children on Vancouver Island.

Jarrett and Jorden Bridger, 7 year-old twin brothers, were this year’s Dream Children. “We chose two children because brotherly love played such a large part in the survival of young Jarrett,” explains Douglas. “Jorden stood by his identical twin brother as he went through open heart surgery two years ago. Together, these brothers gave each other hope for survival so they could play together, just like other kids their age,” adds Douglas. The Dream Children kicked off the tournament with a ceremonial putt. After Jarrett and Jorden completed their putts they were presented with brand new mountain bikes and matching helmets.

“The atmosphere and energy at the tournament was unbelievable and the money raised greatly exceeded our expectations,” says Stewart. “The comments from everyone: volunteers, sponsors and players alike, were all very positive – everyone had a wonderful day, the weather cooperated magnificently, and the Help Fill A Dream Foundation was delighted once again to accept a very generous cheque from our event.” Next years tournament is scheduled for September 17, 2005.
