Victoria-based Help Fill A Dream Foundation continues to operate, considers legal action after dismissing employee

VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA—The board of directors of the Help Fill A Dream Foundation of Canada would like to assure the public that the foundation continues to fulfill its mandate by providing "dreams" in addition to financial and in-kind support for children facing life-threatening illnesses. The foundation is a registered charitable organization that has operated in western Canada for nearly twenty years.

"We are proud of the work of the foundation and the important role it serves in our community," said Bob Campbell, foundation president. "With the public's generosity and understanding, we will continue to support children facing serious illnesses for many years to come," he said.

Campbell's statements are made in the context of the board's discovery of financial improprieties on the part of the foundation's office manager. The board has dismissed the employee, safeguarded the foundation's assets and is considering legal action. The employee has returned funds discovered to date and has indicated that she is prepared to make full restitution.

"While we cannot comment on the details of a matter pending the results of internal and external investigations, we can say with confidence that we have taken swift and decisive steps to protect the present and future 'dreams' of children for whom we hold the public's generosity in trust," said Campbell. Campbell indicated that the foundation will keep the public informed of its proceedings.

An advisory outlining the foundation's next steps will be released as soon as more information is available.
